Hydrogels – a desirable alternative to water paper restoring procedures: impacting paper properties

Water immersion is a common practice for treating paper media. However, this treatment could irreversibly damage and the information written on it – such procedures are advised if documents do not contain water-resistant components as inks or paints form mechanically stable. Thus, polymeric materials an attractive alternative to water cleaning. Various polymers used produce hydrogels, but there much cleaning effects before after aging. Due their highly rigid properties, Kelcogel, TopVision Agarose PhytagelTM hydrogels be applied clean fragile media instead of immersion. The hydrogel safely without any residue change properties. Selected were analysed composition, discharge acidity according corresponding requirements restoration processes: establish changes in chemical physical properties cleaning, filter samples with SEM, TGA, FTIR pH-meter compared benchmarks cleaned distilled water.
